PUNCHNG.COM — Simbi Wabote, former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), reflects on a career defined by technical expertise, policy innovation, and a passion for nation-building. Originally inspired to study civil engineering through mentorship and personal curiosity, Wabote transitioned from a successful 27-year career at Shell—where he held global roles in local content and procurement—to leading Nigeria’s drive for domestic participation in oil and gas.
As Executive Secretary, he introduced a 10-year strategic roadmap that doubled Nigerian content levels, completed major infrastructure like the 17-story Content Tower, and launched landmark initiatives such as industrial parks, digital transformation programs, and the Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair. He also championed the $500M Nigerian Content Intervention Fund and oversaw 98% loan repayment success—far above national averages.
Wabote credits Shell’s investment in talent, his personal discipline, and core principles of integrity, objectivity, and forthrightness for his rise. His leadership philosophy emphasizes teamwork, transparency, and a belief that technical fields like engineering remain rich with opportunity for Nigeria’s youth. Outside of work, he’s a family-oriented mentor who enjoys golf, reading, and spirited conversation—and remains proudly committed to Nigeria’s future, even outside public office.
